SCANNER APP OVERVIEW

Yuka Alternatives: Food and Cosmetic Scanner Apps Compared

According to NielsenIQ's "The Accountability Era of Snacking" analysis (10 July 2026, cited by Reuters on 23 October 2026), 25% of surveyed consumers use third-party scanning apps to check ingredients, up eight percentage points from several months earlier. The public NielsenIQ summary does not state which countries were surveyed, so this figure is a general category signal rather than a measurement of Czech shoppers.

Shoppers looking for an app like Yuka usually want one of four things: a fast additive and nutrition check, a processed-food risk scale, a Czech-language E-number lookup for local groceries, or a daily calorie diary. The table and summaries below compare Blurrix alongside Yuka, ZOE, Open Food Facts, FÉR potravina, dTest, and Kalorické tabulky using public documentation checked on 27 October 2026.

How each application approaches food and ingredient scanning

Blurrix

Blurrix is a Czech and English web application that scans food, cosmetics, and dietary supplements by barcode, with label photo OCR and manual entry when a code is missing. Each product record shows its domain score (FoodScore, BeautySafe, or SupplementScore), per-dimension explanations, front-of-pack claim context (SwaySniff), and data status (model version, record completeness, and check date).

Yuka

Yuka is an independent mobile scanner for food and cosmetics with a database of 3.6M to 4M food items and 2M to 2.3M cosmetic items across 15 officially supported countries. It scores food from Nutri-Score (60%), additives (30%, capped at 49/100 when a high-risk additive is present), and organic certification (10%), and does not rate dietary or protein supplements.

ZOE

The ZOE app focuses on food only, combining barcode scanning and AI meal photo logging with its Processed Food Risk Scale, which builds on NOVA processing groups, additive count and type, hyperpalatability, and energy density. It is offered in the UK, US, Ireland, and the Netherlands, and is not offered in Czechia.

Open Food Facts

Open Food Facts is a free, volunteer-run non-profit project and open database (ODbL) available in Czech. Scanning a food barcode displays Nutri-Score, the NOVA processing group (1 to 4), and Green-Score environmental data; its sister project Open Beauty Facts covers cosmetics.

FÉR potravina

FÉR potravina is a free Czech mobile application focused on groceries sold in Czechia. It lets shoppers scan a food barcode or search E-numbers by name or code and explains each additive on its own risk scale alongside nutrition values.

dTest

Published by the Czech consumer organization dTest, the free mobile app includes a searchable catalogue of approved food additives (E-numbers) with safety and warning indicators and a barcode scanner that lists the E-numbers in a scanned food product, alongside access to dTest's independent product testing archive for subscribers.

Kalorické tabulky (complementary tool)

Kalorické tabulky (Dine4Fit) is a Czech calorie and macronutrient diary rather than an ingredient-risk rating app. Because its database covers more than 200,000 Czech and Slovak food items with a fast barcode reader, many shoppers use it to track daily protein, fiber, and energy intake alongside a label-scanning tool.
